| Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Hybrid Electronics? Hybrid Electronics is an established Australian company specializing in the development and manufacture of thick film hybrid microelectronic circuits.
What is a Thick Film Hybrid? A Thick film hybrid is an alternative to a Printed circuit board (PCB). Thick film hybrid microcircuit technology involves the precision screen printing and firing of conductors, resistors and dielectrics onto a ceramic substrate for multilayer circuitry or capacitors. Thick film hybrids films are usually 0.50 to 1.00 mil thick and are usually screen printed where as thin film thicknesses are typically in the 100 to 1000 angstrom range and are usually produced through evaporation or sputtering.
What is the difference between a PCB and a Hybrid?
How do you make a Thick Film Hybrid?
Would you like your PCB's to be cheaper, smaller, more secure and much more robust? Yes? Talk to Hybrid Electronics about how you can achieve all this by using thick film hybrids instead. A thick film hybrid is an alternative to a PCB, it is smaller, more robust, can't be reverse engineered and doesn't need to be mounted in a box. It is a multilayer circuit made by precision screen printing and firing of conductors, resistors and dielectrics onto a substrate. At Hybrid Electronics we can manufacture hybrid components on Stainless Steel or Ceramic substrates. These substrates can be mounted onto a PCB or can replace the PCB if need be. If you already have a circuit design (for your existing PCB), you can email it to us (in protel), confidentiality guaranteed. Let us know how many you use and we'll tell you about how you would benefit by using a hybrid instead of a PCB and we'll give you a quote. All free and with no obligation. Alternatively, if it's a design you need, tell us your specifications and we will let you know if a hybrid is the best solution for you. If it is, we will then prepare a quote on developing the circuit for you and let you know about the cost of manufacture also. All free and with no obligation. Hybrid Electronics is Australia's leading manufacturer of hybrid components - We are also a highly innovative company who love a challenge. Hybrid Electronics have been operating in Australia for 35 years and we also have a facility in the Philippines. During those years we have worked on products as complex as the Cochlear bionic ear and products as simple as resistor networks.
What makes us different from our competitors? Hybrid Electronics sustainable advantage arises from its ability to be flexible and technically innovative with closeness and understanding of its customers needs. Hybrid Electronics are also able to undertake small production runs with relative ease while our larger competitors have no interest in small volume orders. Why is a Thick Film Hybrid Better than a Printed Circuit Board (PCB)? Size - A hybrid can be half the size of the most complex PCB. Precision - Resistors are printed and laser trimmed (even after final assembly) on hybrids to any value and can be more precise than PCB surface mounted resistors. Security - Encapsulation secures your circuit from prying competitors and reverse engineering. Encapsulation - Hence tolerant to moisture, corrosion and vibration. In difficult environments PCB’s require a hermetic box, hybrid’s do not. Wide temperature range & power dissipation - This is due to the high temperature performance and thermal conductivity of the ceramic substrate.
Hybrid Electronics cost of a Thick Film Hybrid? Hybrid Electronics is strongly price competitive with both thick film hybrid and PCB competitors. Hybrid Electronics is competitive while maintaining a high degree of innovation, flexibility and customer support.
